Chillllle. Let me tell you one thing that scares me in life (besides crocs):
Walking out of the house thinking that I look like a million dollars, when in reality I look like an overdrawn account. Thinking that I look rich, but in reality I look so broke that even the word “broke” looks rich.
Y’all. I’m afraid of looking straight up raggedy lol.
But that's not all...
I end up looking this way on THEEEE day when everyone and they momma who knows me, sees it…and then it goes viral.
Scary, right? I know. I would honestly rather yeet myself off a cliff. But because I care about you and I don’t want you to get caught slipping (because I’m a real one), here are 7 habits of insanely stylish people.
They dress like themselves, not like everyone else
Stylish people are inspired by others, but they don’t try to look exactly like everyone else. We have enough copycats in the world, so why contribute and become another one? Everyone tries to be like each other – so be the one who strives to be yourself. We need more unique people in the world.
They invest in timeless pieces
Trust me when I say this: fast fashion is not the answer. Always being cheap is not the answer. Classic items that you wear – like jeans, blazers, button downs, leather jackets – need to be invested in strategically. Cheaply made & bought clothes end up becoming expensive because you have to replace them every damn month (like who has the time, energy, & money for that? Hell, even Beyoncé has better things to do).
Higher quality clothes that are a bit more pricey saves you more money in the long run. However, be cautious. Just because something costs more doesn’t mean that it’s good quality. Do your research. Don’t let Satan’s uglass (ugly ass) deceive you.
They understand what works for their body, life, & goals
Stylish people don’t just be out here in these streets looking a hot mess, knowing that they have places to be and things to do.
They don’t wear 6-inch Louis Vuittons knowing they look like a new born giraffe walking in them. If that’s you – stawp it. Your ankles are screaming out in pain and we can hear them. Hell, we can see it too.
Stylish people know and understand what flatters & doesn’t flatter their bodies. If you need help figuring this out, do some research or reach out to someone who can help you (like me, mwahaha).
They don’t follow every single god-forsaken trend
Fashion changes unbelievably fast (like it’s actually disrespectful how fast it changes). I legit get whiplash thinking about it. Trying to keep up with every trend known to man will leave you broke, exhausted, and stressed – and trust me, you have enough going on, so why add something else?
If certain trends work for you, GREAT! Snatch edges, wigs, and dentures while you’re out here looking sexy in ‘em. But if you’re wearing ‘em for the sake of “fitting in” or because the experts said so, you’re only acting as a slave to trends and wasting your money in the process.
They don’t put their worth in labels
Honey. I want you to read this next sentence closely: Labels mean absolutely nothing and they sure as hell don’t determine your worth. I won’t sit here and act like I haven’t dreamed of having certain labels in my wardrobe (*coughlouisvuittonredbottomscough*), because I have. The only difference is that I don’t rely on those labels to make me look stylish or expensive.
And neither should you.
Keep in mind, that most of the time, celebrities get sent designer clothing from well-known high-end brands for free. When you see these celebrities wearing these brands and looking jaw dropping while in it – remember that you don’t actually need what they have. It’s the job of the designer brand to entice you enough to buy into whatever that celebrity is wearing.
You’re worth more than what any design label costs. Don’t mistake your worthiness for what you see on the price tag.
They rock their outfits with this ground-breaking word called confidence *gasp*
Even on the days where stylish people feel like crawling into a 300-foot hole and never coming out, they still look good and have the confidence to match with it. As the day progresses, you may find yourself feeling better (even if it’s only slightly) because of what you wore.
You carry yourself differently when you wear what makes you feel good - even if you don’t feel good.
They are always looking for ways to improve their Style
Oh, so you just thought that stylish people wake up one day and simply decide that they no longer need to change or improve their style in some way?
They are always looking for ways to improve their style. Download my guide here and I’ll teach you 7 easy ways to improve your style (you didn’t think I would leave you hanging, did you?).
Style is a journey, not a destination. You’ll never reach a point in your life where you’ll stick to one style. If you think back for a moment how your style was 5 years ago to what it is now – you’ll understand what I mean.
Pft, I mean really. Imagine if you were still wearing what you did in high school or back in the early 2000s. Traumatic isn’t it? I still have nightmares about my emo phase *shudders*.
