Get in loser, we’re going shopping.

Now, you’re either excited and jumping with joy - or dreading it and quickly considering jumping off the nearest cliff.

I get it - shopping isn’t for everyone. Honestly, you might even hate it. There’s so much frustration, confusion, and cluelessness that comes with it. You have so many options, but no idea where to begin.

Because you too fine to be stressin', I’m here to make the experience as painless as possible.

When you learn to be more intentional with shopping, you can stop wasting your time and money continuously buying new things just to throw it out or never wear it.

When you’re actually out shopping and something catches your eye - whether it’s clothes, shoes, or other accessories - it’s important to always ask yourself questions to validate an item’s worth before you buy it. Having a game plan in mind whenever you shop prevents you from going nuts and mindlessly buying the entire store. No one has time to end up broke, in debt, and pissed because you still hate your closet. We’re trying to fill your pockets - not the CEO of Nordstrom’s.

Here are some questions to ask yourself to help you on your shopping endeavors:

Will this flatter me?

Not every style of clothing is for every body shape - and that’s okay. Going through trial and error, you’ll figure out what pieces look best on your body and which don’t.

Do I have something like this in my closet already?

Realized you have 5 of the same shirt in your closet? Put it back.

Will I wear this more than once?

If you're shopping for a dress for an event that isn’t your wedding, make sure there’s a high probability that you’ll wear it again. No need to spend $500 on a dress that will never see the light of day after this weekend (unless you’re Rihanna - then my Queen, do as you please).

What other colors can I wear this with?

Train yourself to think outside the box! I promise you have way more options than just black.

Can I create at least 3 outfits?

If you can’t even think of one outfit to wear it with - put it back. If you’re feeling ambitious, find something that you could wear it with.

Do I really love this or is this just an impulse buy?

Impulse buys are a trap. It could happen because it’s on sale, it’s trendy and cute, or because someone told you to. If you don’t actually love something, the reality is that it’ll just sit in your closet and collect dust.

There’s also a possibility that you’re going to buy it because you feel pressed by a sales associate. Don’t do it. Don’t allow a sales associate to make you feel like you have to buy anything.

Go off what you want and love.

Time to get specific…

Now, let’s say it’s a day that you’re looking for something specific - like a blazer.

Okay cool. What kind of blazer? Single-breasted or double? Are you looking for a certain pattern or are you opting for a specific color? What color? What fabrication? What’s your price range?

Being as specific as possible will help keep you focused and avoid overbuying. If you’re too broad with what you’re looking for, you may end up with 15 blazers at the end of the day - or better yet, probably none because you got way too overwhelmed and gave up.

| When you get in the habit of asking yourself realistic questions, you immediately train your eye when shopping for clothes. |
